OUR NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS

Neuropsychological assessment provides a detailed understanding of how a person’s brain is functioning across areas such as memory, attention, language, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. A neuropsychologist is a specialist psychologist trained to assess cognition, behaviour, and emotional functioning in individuals who may be experiencing neurological, developmental, or mental health-related difficulties.

These assessments can be helpful when individuals are experiencing challenges such as forgetfulness, reduced concentration, difficulty finding words, or changes in behaviour, mood, or daily functioning. They are commonly used to support understanding and diagnosis in conditions such as brain injury, stroke, dementia, ADHD, autism, epilepsy, and other neurological or neurodevelopmental conditions.

A neuropsychological assessment typically involves a comprehensive interview, standardised cognitive testing, and (where appropriate) input from family members or other supports. The assessment process usually takes 3–4 hours, with breaks provided as needed. Following the assessment, a detailed report and feedback session are provided to explain the results and offer tailored recommendations to support everyday functioning, learning, work, and quality of life.

Assessments can assist with clarifying diagnoses, identifying cognitive strengths and difficulties, guiding rehabilitation and intervention planning, and supporting return to work or study. Testing is conducted face-to-face, while interviews and feedback sessions can also be offered via telehealth where appropriate.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a neuropsychological assessment?

A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of how the brain is functioning, including areas such as memory, attention, language, problem-solving, and emotional regulation. It helps to understand both strengths and areas of difficulty.

Who might benefit from a neuropsychological assessment?

An assessment may be helpful for individuals experiencing difficulties with memory, concentration, communication, or daily functioning. It is commonly recommended for people with conditions such as brain injury, stroke, dementia, ADHD, autism, epilepsy, or other neurological or developmental concerns.

What concerns might indicate the need for an assessment?

Common concerns include forgetfulness, confusion, difficulty staying focused, problems finding words, changes in behaviour or mood, or reduced ability to manage everyday tasks such as work, study, or household responsibilities.

What does the assessment involve?

The process typically includes an initial interview to understand history and current concerns, followed by standardised cognitive testing. In some cases, information from a family member or support person may also be included to provide a broader picture.

How long does the assessment take?

Most assessments take approximately 3–4 hours, depending on the complexity of the referral. Breaks are provided throughout to ensure comfort.

What happens after the assessment?

A feedback session is usually provided within 2–4 weeks, where results are explained and personalised recommendations are discussed. A comprehensive written report is also provided.

What information will I receive?

You will receive a detailed report outlining cognitive strengths and challenges, along with clear recommendations to support functioning at home, school, or work, and to guide any further treatment or supports.

Do I need to attend in person?

Yes, cognitive testing is conducted face-to-face to ensure accuracy. However, interviews and feedback sessions can often be completed via Telehealth if needed.

What do I need to bring to the assessment?

Please bring any relevant medical or assessment reports, as well as items such as reading glasses or hearing aids if you use them.

How can a neuropsychological assessment help?

Assessments can assist with diagnosis, clarify the impact of a condition on daily functioning, guide treatment or rehabilitation planning, and support return to work, school, or other activities.

Neuropsychological Assessment Fees

We know that seeking an assessment can feel like a big step — emotionally and financially. Our goal is to keep fees as low as possible, while being clear and transparent about what is included at every stage. No hidden costs, no unnecessary add-ons — just thoughtful, thorough assessment tailored to your individual needs.

At the time of booking your neuropsychological assessment, a $100 non-refundable deposit is required.  This will go towards the cost of your assessment.  An initial 15-minute phone call with our endorsed clinical neuropsychologist will be scheduled where she can gather some brief history and ensure that our service is right for you.

You will then be booked in for your assessment.  For most assessments, the fee is $2800.  However, this may change should you circumstances be particularly complex and require additional assessment.  This will be discussed with you at the time of booking during your phone consultation with the neuropsychologist.
